Product details

Taking inspiration from the natural beauty of his native Finland, design legend Alvar Aalto created iconic home design pieces that are functional and sculptural. In the decades since winning the 1937 Paris World Fair, Aalto's flowing wave ("aalto" in Finnish) shape has become a timeless symbol of Scandinavian interior design. Each unique vase is first mouthblown. Then pieces are hand cut before going through several polishings at the Iittala Glass Factory. The world famous Aalto vase is a striking piece of home design.

About Iittala

Iittala was established as a small, humble glass factory in Finland, 1881 and today, celebrates generations of essential objects that are made to enrich people's every day lives.

About Alvar Alto

Born in Kuortane in 1898, Alvar Aalto made his name as a master of modern architecture through his unique style and exceptional talent. He worked closely with his wife Aino Aalto.

Aalto designed concert halls, libraries, hospitals, museums and private homes, among others, all around the world. His works were exhibited in the New York Museum of Modern Art already in the 1930s. Aalto also designed several objects which were originally intended to become parts of buildings and decorations. However, the objects took on a life of their own.

The most famous of the objects designed by Aalto is the Aalto vase, which was first seen at the 1937 Paris World Exposition. Independently and together with his wife Aino Aalto, Alvar Aalto designed a number of versatile objects.

For glass vases we recommend hand washing. If there are stubborn stains on your flower vase, soak the vase in laundry detergent and water. Do not scrub, as scouring powder or abrasive scrubbing pads scratch and spoil the surface.
